There is not a single other way to say it other than that Nick O’Leary is a lucky man — all things considered. O’Leary first became famous because he happens to be the grandson of Jack Nicklaus. Now he is famous because he happens to be very good at playing the game of football. That, however, is not important when discussing this story.
Before I post the video below, there happens to be a few things you should know. The Lexus involved in the crash was apparently found to be at fault. Meaning — despite myself not personally being a fan of motorcycles — O’Leary was not to blame for what transpired. The second — more important thing — is O’Leary walks away from this horrific, terrible crash alive.
Here is the video (credit to the fellas at SB Nation)
That is about a scary a real life video as I have ever seen. Not that it was gruesome, because it wasn’t, but because it was real, random and could happen to about anyone — including a young man who seemingly has the world by its, you know.
Jimbo Fisher recently said that the injury left him a little banged up. Well, I guess he didn’t want to go into details, but there seemed to be a little key information left out. Like the whole, “he nearly lost his life in a motorcycle accident” type of information. I am sure Fisher was just trying to protect Nick O’Leary until everything settled down and the police decided who was at fault.
Thankfully the bus had a video camera and the blame got placed in the right direction. For O’Leary, however, he is expected to miss significant time from the crash and no real timetable has been set for his return. Regardless, after seeing the video, I’m just happy he is alright — football can wait.
