Name: Nick Waisome
Weight: 170 lbs
Twitter Handle: @Swag6_
2012 Season Stats: 21 total tackles, 1 INT, 8 passes defended
Prognostication: Nick Waisome is going to start at one of the cornerback positions this season. How do we know that? Well, he started every game at corner last season and did a pretty good job of doing so — for one of the best defenses in the country. He missed some spring practice because of injury, but that won’t stop him from reclaiming the starting gig that he never lost.
Strengths: When Waisome was coming out of high school his key attributes was listed as his speed. Since being with the program he has also developed a strong technique and pretty solid ball skills. Those aspects of his game are only going to get better with each start he gets at corner. Plus he already has a slew of experience — which is something that is pretty vital, but widely undervalued when evaluating the cornerback position.
Weaknesses: Nick Waisome could use to put on a few pounds, although, it isn’t a make-or-break deal as far as his playing career goes. If you were to be extremely negative about his play you could point out — despite his good ball skills — that he does sometimes attempt to catch the football with his body. To be fair, though, if he had good hands he would probably be a receiver and not a cornerback..
Fairly random, but awesome, Nick Waisome factoid: Waisome was rated as high as the fifth best cornerback coming out of high school. His biggest knock at the time was his size — which he has yet to add muscle mass to. Despite all of that he has done a more than admirable job for Florida State.
