Prognostication: I fear what I am about to say is going to bite me in the rear. Still — because ChopChat lives life with no fear — we believe that Jameis Winston will be the starting QB when the Noles begin the season. Winston was redshirted last season, although, it didn’t mean he didn’t compete at a high-level. The two-sport athlete spent his first year on campus as Florida State’s relief pitcher and outfielder for the baseball team. While that doesn’t mean diddly-squat for his upcoming season, it could have helped him translate to the travel that comes with being a Division I athlete. Jameis Winston also dominated the Garnet & Gold game — which really makes projecting him as the starter that much easier to do.

Strengths: Do you like reading about a player becoming a myth/legend/character before he even steps on the field? It’s hard not to get too warm in the belly when thinking about Winston’s abilities. Strong armed, athletic, funny on Twitter. You name it, Jameis Winston is bringing the goods. He was also one of (if not) the top quarterback prospects coming out of high school. Whatever expectations we have on him or future successes he may end up enjoying are expected. The hype around Winston is growing each day as the season gets closer. By opening day, don’t be surprised if we are all mad with Jameis Winston fever. Okay, well, maybe just me.

Weaknesses: Weaknesses, are you kidding me? You want me to spew some hatred towards this fella after I just wrote a love novella (not really) towards his general direction? Here is the thing, Winston is going to be green if he does end up being the starter. So there is going to be obvious bumps in the road that comes with being a freshman quarterback. If Winston happens to be half the player I am currently conjuring in my cranium, however, good times await Florida State fans.

Fairly random, but awesome, Jameis Winston factoid: Drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the MLB Draft. Winston decided Florida State was his best option at the time and currently plays football and baseball for the university.
